“Core Contact Period”: To promote what we know about Historical Pre-Colonial Filipinos and their world, which runs into the Historical Colonial period as colonization was a gradual and uneven process, the main focus might on a “Core Contact Period” that could be arguably set from 1521 to 1609 – from the arrival of Magellan and the accounts of that voyage through to the founding of the Spanish colony at Cebu in 1565, the founding of the colonial capital at Manila in 1571, and ending with Antonio de Morga’s Sucesos de las Islas Filipinas published in 1609, that was importantly annotated by Jose Rizal to give Filipino viewpoints.
